UAB football coach Trent Dilfer on playing Auburn in spring game: 'Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty please'
Auburn football coach Hugh Freeze was asked about what he wants the Tigers' spring game to be during a press conference on Monday afternoon.
Freeze took the question and decided to advocate for something he's been asking for since his time at Ole Miss; playing spring football games against different competition.
"Let Alabama play Troy and we play UAB, or vice versa," Freeze said. "Or whoever, I don't care. Or Alabama State, or whoever. People will come see that."
Nothing has come from Freeze's comments for change since coaching the Rebels.
Troy Trojans head coach Jon Sumrall told 247Sports on Tuesday afternoon that He "wouldn't have a problem with" going to play Auburn in a spring scrimmage.
On Wednesday, UAB head coach Trent Dilfer gave his thoughts on playing Auburn in a spring game.
He was very excited in his response.
“Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty please,' Dilfer said. "Yes, yes, of course. Hugh’s right. I think we all want — whether you’re Auburn or Alabama, you’re looking for live competition. You’re looking not to play yourself. I think if you’re UAB or Troy, you’re looking to hopefully play people that are perceived to be much better than you so you can kind of use it as a test to see where your program’s at.”
The Tigers have only played UAB once, have never played Troy, has never played South Alabama and only played Alabama State twice.
