The Auburn Tigers have landed former FIU guard Denver Jones.

Auburn went into the offseason needing some guards after Zep Jasper ran out of eligibility, Wendell Green Jr. left for the draft, and Chance Westry hit the portal.

The Tigers got exactly what they needed in Jones, who averaged 20.1 points per game at FIU a season ago. He has only played two years of college ball, so Jones will be on the Plains for a while unless the NBA comes calling.

Jones shot 37.1% from three a season ago and 84.5% from the charity stripe. After the second-half collapse against Houston, seeing a player come in that is reliable at the free throw line has to excite Tiger fans.

Jones made three or more triples in ten ball games for FIU last season, so he can make them in bunches.

He is also a taller guard, standing six-foot-four which is something Auburn fans aren't used to seeing.

It is scary to think what this backcourt will look like with Aden Holloway, Tre Donaldson, and Jones handling the ball on the Plains.

What impresses me most with Jones's game is his ability to create his own shot. That is something we haven't seen from a Tiger guard in a while.

Don't think for a second that Jones is just a shooter. He's a great slasher thanks to his taller frame and also finds his teammate's open looks off the drive.

Jones is going to score a lot of points in an Auburn uniform.

This is likely not the last splash Auburn will make in the portal. Coach Pearl loves to reload, and he has already done that early into the offseason, landing a proven scorer in Jones.
