Who will be Auburn's leading pass catcher this season?

With a wide receiver and tight end room that has seen a complete overhaul, who could be Auburn's leading receiver in 2023?

Auburn football in general left a lot to be desired last season, but one area that was especially bad was pass-catching.

Ja'Varrius Johnson, going into his senior season, led the Tigers in receiving yards a year ago. He caught 26 passes for 493 yards and three touchdowns.

Running back Tank Bigsby led the Tigers in receptions last season with 30. Those receptions were good for 180 yards.

Hugh Freeze has wasted no time bringing in new targets for the Auburn offense.

Four exciting wide receivers joined the Tigers via the transfer portal. Caleb Burton, Shane Hooks, Nick Mardener and Larry Nixon III will all likely see some action.

Additionally, Rivaldo Fairweather will make a big difference in the tight-end room.

Freeze has been known to frequently use the tight end position in his offense and with a guy like Fairweather in the unit that can be expected to continue.

Last season for the Florida International Panthers, Fairweather caught 28 passes for 426 yards and three touchdowns.

It is unlikely that Auburn's leader in receptions or receiving yards will be a running back in 2023.

With an improved offensive line the Tigers will be able to move the ball on the ground and not have to rely on getting the running backs involved through the air which was the case at times in 2022.

Fairweather has a good chance of being Auburn's leader in receptions but likely not in receiving yards.

Any of the transfer receivers could make enough noise to end up leading the team in yards, but Hooks has shown the most flash at this point.

It will not be long before the revamped Auburn pass catchers can show off their abilities against the UMass Minutemen at home inside Jordan-Hare Stadium on September 2 at 2:30 p.m. CT.
