Auburn football ranks low in post-spring SEC power rankings
Auburn football had a really good spring.
Well, compared to the last two seasons.
Hugh Freeze stepped in back in November and has since revitalized things for the Tigers on the recruiting trail, nabbing 16 players (and counting) from the transfer portal while finishing with the No. 18 recruiting class nationally (according to 247Sports).
Freeze and his staff addressed needs, began to install systems, and brought a positive vibe back to the Plains.
On3's Jesse Simonton recently released his post-spring 2023 SEC power rankings and placed Auburn at 11th.
Here's what Simonton had to say about the Tigers:
"Hugh Freeze has methodically positioned the Tigers to be a bowl team in 2023, using the initial transfer portal window in the winter to retool Auburn’s offensive line, defensive line and linebacking core.
He also grabbed a couple of playmakers in tailback Brian Battie and wideout Nick Mardner, but post-spring, the Tigers have aggressively hit the portal to address added needs at receiver, pass rusher, and most notably, quarterback.
While Michigan State transfer Payton Thorne isn’t a future All-American, he potentially raises Auburn’s floor and ceiling in the fall."
Simonton's power rankings were as follows:
1. Georgia
2. LSU
3. Alabama
4. Tennessee
5. Ole Miss
6. Arkansas
7. Texas A&M
8. Kentucky
9. South Carolina
10. Mississippi State
11. Auburn
12. Florida
13. Missouri
14. Vanderbilt
