Casey Thompson: Career stats, notes, and highlight performances
Former Nebraska quarterback Casey Thompson took a visit to Auburn over the weekend.
The Tigers are in search of a transfer portal quarterback to add to the roster, and right now it's looking like their best options are either Thompson or Michigan State transfer Payton Thorne.
Here's a look at Thompson's statistics, notes on his time with Texas and Nebraska, as well as some highlighted performances over the years.

Career passing yards: 4,829
Completion %: 63.5%
Yards per attempt: 8.6
300-yard+ performances: 6

Career rushing yards: 189

By the season:
2019 - Texas

2020 - Texas

2021 - Texas

2022 - Nebraska
2,407, 17 TD/10 INT
What the game logs say:
Nebraska's losses typically didn't have to do Casey Thompson's faults. In Nebraska's ten losses where Thompson threw 15 or more passes, he threw 22 touchdowns to 10 interceptions.
In the seven losses where Thompson threw for at least 179 yards, the Cornhuskers had a lead heading into the fourth quarter in five times. The defense gave up an average of 42 points per game in those seven games. Only one of these was a home game (Vs Oklahoma State, 10/16/2021)
To be fair, Thompson also threw eight interceptions in these losses.
There are nine Nebraska wins where Thompson threw at least 10 passes. Those wins were against TCU, Rice, Kansas State, Colorado, North Dakota, Rutgers, Indiana, Iowa, and Texas Tech. Nebraska eclipsed 200 yards rushing in six of those wins. Those teams had a combined 29-23 record heading into their games vs the Cornhuskers.
It's pretty simple. Thompson's Nebraska resume lacks solid opponents overall, but even in his good performances, the team around him usually failed. Putting him in a better situation with more help in the backfield - and a lot more help from the coaches - should boost his numbers and show his arm talent.
This was proven by his 2021 season at Texas, where Thompson tossed 24 touchdowns and was explosive and overall fun to watch, despite the Longhorns failing to make a bowl game.
The one bowl game Thompson has under his belt he dominated in (see below).
Best games of his career
Vs Oklahoma (2021)
20-34, 338 yards, five touchdowns
Texas jumped out to a 28-7 lead over the Sooners, with Thompson throwing three of his five touchdowns within the first 15 minutes of the game. However, a quarterback change helped Oklahoma roar back into the game and walk it off with a go-ahead run from Kennedy Brooks.
At Iowa (2022)
20-30, 278 yards, three touchdowns
The 329 yards Nebraska's offense racked up were the most the Hawkeyes gave up at home last season. The nation's No. 2 defense gave up some long plays in the passing game, including this bomb from Thompson to Trey Palmer:
Vs Colorado (2020)
8-10, four touchdowns
Thompson came in to start the second half with the Longhorns up 17-10. Half of his throws were touchdowns.
He showed amazing poise in this one, displaying his creative playmaking ability and beautiful touch on his touchdowns.
Vs Texas Tech (2021)
18-23, five touchdowns
Efficient. That's what Thompson was in this game.
It helps that the play calling was excellent.
I love this throw into the back of the endzone.
