One of the most coveted wide receivers in portal might be headed to Auburn

Former Ohio State receiver Caleb Burton is now sporting an Auburn Jersey on his social media profile

Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers need to add some talent to their wide receiver corps. Burton is a perfect fit for that need. He recently changed his Twitter profile pic to one of him wearing Auburn Gear. He did not respond to questions about it.

Out of Austin, Texas, Burton comes in at 5-foot-11 and 169 pounds. The former 4-star recruit spent only one season at Ohio State before realizing they don't have a reliable quarterback this spring and bolting for the transfer portal. Burton would have four years of eligibility left if he came to Auburn.

Caleb Burton is an outstanding route runner that has the ability to play both the outside and the slot positions. He has tremendous speed and body control as well as wonderful hands.  Coming out of high school many prognosticators saw Burton as a "sky is the limit" type of quarterback with the talent to get into the top half of the NFL draft. To sum it up, he is really, really good. 

He would join a wide receiver room that appears to have front runners in the depth chart with Camden Brown, Ja'Varrius Johnson, and Nick Mardner.

It would seem Auburn’s new quarterback, Payton Thorne, might be exciting a few prospective pass catchers. Good players want to play with good players, and this could be the start of something huge for the Auburn offense. 

The Tigers have had ten players depart from the program within the last few weeks, including three backup linebackers:

Auburn has pulled in an impressive haul thus far during Hugh Freeze's first season on the Plains, currently sitting at No. 3 nationally in 247Sports' transfer portal class rankings.
