Texas edge rusher Derrick Brown has entered the transfer portal
Former Texas freshman edge rusher Derrick Brown has officially entered the transfer portal after one season in Austin, per On3. Brown, out of Texarkana, Texas, did not see the field as a true freshman and will enter the portal in search of a new home outside of Austin.
He will be leaving alongside linebacker Trevell Johnson.
A three-star prospect out of high school, Brown, At 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds, was ranked as the No. 83 recruit from the state of Texas and the No. 31 outside linebacker prospect in the country. He has elite speed for his size as well. The rumor is that this is not a playing time issue, he just wants to test the SEC waters.
Auburn fans obviously remember the last Derick Brown to grace us with his presence. Perhaps that is a good omen for this powerful pass rusher. This young man has the name and physical skills that Auburn needs at the edge position.
Freeze has commented several times, that Auburn is “deficient in true pass-rushers” and needs to add more bodies and talent at the JACK linebacker position. Auburn already added Vanderbilt transfer Elijah McAllister during the portal, and true freshman Keldric Faulk has turned heads the entire Spring practice. Auburn only has two other scholarship players in the room. Dylan Brooks and true freshman Brenton Williams.
This could be just the person to fill out this position. Young, eager, and would be locked up for Auburn after using his transfer.
