Baylor Bears men’s basketball head coach Scott Drew can now add an additional check mark next to the ‘Texas Sports Hall of Fame’ inductee.

Drew, a two-time national coach of the year, is one of eight new members slated to be inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2023.

As coach Drew embarks upon his 20th season at the helm of the men’s hoops program, one he took over that was in shambles prior to his belief-driven shakeup that has turned Baylor University into a coveted basketball program for many years to come, the young man who took the reins in 2003 now has a school-record 397 wins and counting (compared to just 222 losses).

For those who don’t remember, keep in mind that Drew’s first three seasons were ones to forget – but the same can be said for college basketball legends such as Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski.

Since the start of the 2007-08 campaign, Drew’s Bears have completed the year with a winning record and at least 18 wins every single season.

And since the start of the 2019-20 season, Baylor has amassed at least 26 wins every year and has an eye-popping 42-8 conference record in that span (15-3 in 2019-20, 13-1 in 2020-21, and 14-4 in 2021-22).

Drew also holds a postseason record of 28-10 since 2009.

The other seven members joining Drew in the Texas Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2023 include:

Robert Brazile (Houston Oilers).

Jose Cruz (Houston Astros).

Carlette Guidry Falkquay (University of Texas).

Priest Holmes (San Antonio Marshall High School/University of Texas).

Adrian Peterson (Palestine High School).

Cynthia Potter (Houston Lamar High School).

Michal Strahan (Texas Southern).

The 62nd Annual Texas Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023.
