Bears Clutch 93-87 Victory Over Canada in GLOBL JAM Semifinals
The Baylor Bears men’s basketball team may have been 0-3 in pool play prior to the semifinals of the GLOBL JAM, but Team USA came up clutch when it mattered the most.
Coach Scott Drew and the Bears held off top-seeded Canada with a 93-87 victory on Saturday, July 9, as Team USA advances to face Brazil in the Gold Medal game on Sunday, July 10, at 6 p.m. Central Time.
Sunday’s game will be televised live on ESPN-Plus in the United States.
Baylor’s Keyonte George was remarkable once again as the incoming freshman poured in 37 points along with four assists and three rebounds.
Through four games of competition in Toronto for the United States, George is averaging 21.7 points, 3.3 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game.
Caleb Lohner led the Bears in rebounds with nine boards while adding eight points and two assists.
Dantwan Grimes garnered a team-high seven assists for Baylor in addition to 10 points and seven assists.
Baylor held a 58-46 halftime lead before Canada stormed back in the third quarter as Team USA led 68-66 heading into the fourth period of play.
George drove to the basket for a huge shot with 1:59 left in the final quarter to give the Bears a five-point advantage.
Shortly thereafter, a Baylor slam-dunk put Team USA on top 88-82 with under one minute left in regulation.
A late three-pointer by the home team cut the lead to 90-85, but that was as close as Canada would get as the Bears coasted to a six-point win.
The United States shot 52 percent from the field (49 percent for Canada), 43 percent from beyond the arc (30 percent for Canada) and 75 percent from the free-throw line (65 percent for Canada) in Saturday's semifinals.
The Bears return to the hardwood for the Gold Medal game against Brazil on Sunday, July 10, at 6 p.m. CT.
