Baylor Bears Guard Adam Flagler Named to Preseason All-Big 12 Team
Baylor Bears senior guard Adam Flagler was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team Wednesday as he prepares to build off a great showing in the 2021-22 season.
Flagler led the Bears in scoring a season ago with just a hair under 14 points a game and also led the Big 12 in three-point shooting over the conference schedule at over 43%. In addition to the all-conference selection, Flagler is also on the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Top 10 list.
The Presbyterian transfer using his fifth year of eligibility carried the Bears at times last year when they battled injuries. While lottery pick Jeremy Sochan, All-American James Akinjo, and sharp-shooting L.J. Cryer all missed games last year, Flagler played in every game and played more than 20 minutes in all but one contest.
Down the stretch, Flagler’s game improved when the team needed him, with a career-high 29-point (including seven three-pointers) performance on the road against Oklahoma State in an overtime victory and leading the way with 27 points in the NCAA tournament loss to eventual runners-up North Carolina. Being a crucial part of the Bears securing their second consecutive regular-season Big 12 championship, Flagler received Second Team All-Big 12 honors in 2021-22.
Even before he was a nailed-on starter, Flagler could change a game in an instant with his shooting ability. In the 2021 national championship game against Gonzaga, the then-sophomore erupted off the bench with 13 points on 3-4 shooting from beyond the arc.
Flagler becomes the 13th Preseason All-Big 12 selection under coach Scott Drew and it is the fourth straight year the Bears have had such a representative. Fellow guards Keyonte George and Cryer were named as honorable mentions.
