Baylor's Keyonte George Named Preseason Big 12 Freshman of the Year
Baylor Bears freshman sensation Keyonte George comes to Waco with a lot of hype, and the Big 12 conference added to that hype Wednesday when they tabbed him as the preseason Freshman of the Year.
George, a Lewisville (TX) native who finished his high school career at the prestigious IMG Academy in Florida, is one of the highest-rated recruits in program history. He is one of five McDonald's All-Americans to commit to Baylor, all of them coming under the leadership of coach Scott Drew.
Beyond the impressive high school stats, Geroge has already stood out in a Baylor (kind of) uniform. With the team representing the USA in the GLOBL JAM competition this summer, George averaged more than 22 points a game while leading the USA to the championship game.
The 6'4" guard has exceptional athleticism and can score from just about anywhere on the floor, but prefers his shots coming from outside the arc. In 14 games for IMG last year, he averaged almost 18 points a game and shot 41% from three-point range. He is a guy who can get hot and stay hot, going over 30 points twice in the GLOBL JAM tournament where he was going up against older professionals from international teams.
George also received an honorable mention for the Preseason All-Big 12 team along with fellow guard L.J. Cryer. Baylor's Adam Flagler was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 team, the 13th selection the Bears have had, once again all in Scott Drew's tenure.
