Baylor QB Blake Shapen OUT vs. West Virginia With Injury
The Baylor Bears may have just suffered a major setback during their Thursday night matchup against the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Early in the third quarter, with the game tied at 24-24, Bears quarterback Blake Shapen left the game with an apparent head injury, after being hit while sliding by a West Virginia defender.
The hit caused Shapen's head to ricochet off of the turf and led him to be taken to the medical tent on the sideline.
After a brief stint in the medical tent, Shapen was then taken back to the locker room for further evaluation.
After that evaluation, Shapen returned to the sideline in street clothes and was officially ruled out.
Upon his exit from the game, Shapen was replaced by freshman quarterback Kyron Drones, who was able to finish the drive with a touchdown pass to get the Bears in the endzone, and back on top at 31-24.
Before leaving the game, Shapen was on fire for the Bears, completing 14 of 22 passes for 326 yards and two touchdowns, with no interceptions.
Wide receiver Gavin Holmes was the big beneficiary of Shapen's hot start, catching three passes for 137 yards and a touchdown, while Hal Presley caught the other touchdown.
Drake Dabney was also having a nice game for the Bears, catching four passes for 55 yards, while Richard Reese is leading the way on the ground with 10 carries for 54 yards.
