BYU WR Kody Epps Exits Transfer Portal, Returns to BYU

A few days after entering the transfer portal, BYU WR Kody Epps returned to BYU

On Sunday evening, BYU star wide receiver Kody Epps shocked the BYU world when he entered the transfer portal. Just a few days later, Epps sent shockwaves through the BYU landscape again when he announced his plans to exit the transfer portal and return to BYU.

BYU starting quarterback Kedon Slovis teased the Epps return on social media when he tweeted "ELDER!" on Tuesday evening. "Elder" has become Epps' nickname among his teammates.

On3sports reported that Epps received offers from the likes of Auburn, Miami, Ole Miss, and Colorado once he entered the portal.

BYU vs Oregon Kody Epps

Epps will be an undisputed starter, and he has the ability to lead BYU in receiving if he can stay healthy. During his breakout season last year, Epps was leading BYU in receiving before he suffered a season-ending injury at Liberty. Despite missing the back half of the season, Epps finished third in receiving yards.

There was a three-game stretch in particular where Epps elevated his game and looked like BYU's next great wide receiver. The three-game stretch included games against Utah State, Notre Dame, and Arkansas. In those three games, Epps tallied 311 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns. The game against Arkansas was his last full game of the season. You can check out his 2022 highlights below.

BYU's outlook at wide receiver is much brighter with Epps back in the fold, and it's even brighter today than it was before Epps entered the transfer portal. In between Epps' portal entrance and exit, BYU added Eastern Michigan wide receiver transfer Darius Lassiter. Lassiter has the talent to break the rotation in 2023 and, at minimum, will provide much needed depth.

Stay tuned for more transfer portal updates in the coming days.
