Wes Miller Confirms CJ Fredrick's Return to Practice: 'Good Day For The Bearcats'

Cincinnati has not had Fredrick on the floor since Dec. 22.

CINCINNATI — Wes Miller gave a positive update on injured UC guard CJ Fredrick (hamstring) during his 700 WLW radio show Thursday night.

The head coach confirmed Fredrick got his first full practice this week since getting injured on Dec. 22. He could suit up against No. 5 Houston.

"I'm not gonna make a statement," Miller said about a definitive playing status. "That's not fair to CJ. You know, but it's possible and I haven't said that. Today I didn't know if he'd be able to practice today, he had not practiced up until today. And I look up and you know he has been stretching and shooting and things like that. So we go through our stretch and some of our shooting before practice and he's out there and then I look up in our first drill, and he's out there playing, and I went, 'Oh, wow. Good day for the Bearcats,' and then I'm thinking how long is this gonna last? You know, because you just don't know after being out that long. And he made it through the whole practice and he looked good.

"I thought that was really good for our team and uplifted our team and uplifted him. I know, it gave him some confidence. He was able to get through it. I think it was one of those things he got out there. And it went good. And he went 'Oh, I'll do one more,' and then all of a sudden looks up and he goes through a whole practice. That's a good head start. That does not mean he'll play Saturday, but I think there's a possibility."

Fredrick is a crucial piece of a UC offense that's averaging 69.6 points in Big 12 play, compared to 77 PPG overall this season. Cincinnati's played just one game with a full roster this season (loss to Dayton) and working Fredrick into the rotation with nine games left could do wonders for UC's postseason prospects.
