Wes Miller Updates Viktor Lakhin's Injury Status As UC Eyes Top-Three Seed In AAC Tournament
CINCINNATI — UC hopes to have Viktor Lakhin back on Wednesday after the forward went through warm-ups before the Bearcats' 73-71 win over UCF.
Cincinnati head coach Wes Miller gave an update concerning Lakhin to The Enquirer.
"That was the first thing Vik has done since the injury, that he's done with any type of pace," Miller told Scott Springer after the game. "He tried to convince us that he could play, after warm-ups. As much as I wanted him out there, I didn't think it was the right decision. Just that risk of re-injury. We hadn't tested it in practice yet. But hopefully, we will see how he responds to all the warm-ups that he did today. See how he responds tomorrow and the next day. We'll see where he is going into Temple."
Cincinnati is now 2-2 since Lakhin exited the loss to Tulane earlier this month. Ody Oguama and Kalu Ezikpe had their best dual performance without him on Sunday, but UC would love to be at full strength.
The program still has a chance at a top-three seed in the AAC Tournament.
UC is two games back of Tulane and 1.5 games back of Memphis. The Tigers still have to play UC, Houston, and road games at Wichita State and SMU. If the Bearcats win out and Memphis loses one of those other three games, Cincinnati will at least be a three-seed.
Tulane needs to lose three of its final four games for Cincinnati to contend for the second seed.
