Grading The Cats: Sifting Through The Miami (OH) Wreckage
CINCINNATI — The Pro Football Focus grades are out for UC's 31-24 loss to Miami (OH) this past Saturday. The defense actually powered the best grades, with seven players earning 70-plus grades on that side of the ball to just three on offense.
Defensive end Jowon Briggs (80.5, one tackle) was the only player to crack 80 overall, with safety Bryon Threats (79.7, one sack, three tackles, one INT) and defensive tackle Dontay Corleone (77.1, three tackles) rounding out the top defenders.
Coverage really hurt UC as they allowed 19.8 yards per reception and a staggering 11.9 yards per attempt to quarterback Brett Gabbert. UC's outside corners were its lowest-graded defenders. Jordan Young (55.5) and Justin Harris (54.2) had rough nights. They allowed completions on 5-of-6 targets for 141 yards and two touchdowns.
Offensively, Xzavier Henderson (76.8) and Emory Jones (72) led the high-snap names on the list. Tight end Barak Faulk had a nice day as a run blocker to power a 75.5 grade.
The lack of high-end performances paired with nine offensive players grading out below 60 overall. Cincinnati needs better play across the board offensively against Oklahoma.
