Report: Additional Louisville Staffers Joining Scott Satterfield At UC
CINCINNATI — More names are starting to surface for Scott Satterfield's Cincinnati staff.
According to John Brice, Satterfield is bringing a batch of Louisville coaches to Clifton.
"Per sources with direct knowledge," Brice wrote. "Satterfield already is bringing with him Bryan Brown, Nic Cardwell, Derek Nicholson, and Pete Thomas in terms of assistant coaches with on-field roles. Additionally, one of Satterfield’s top off-the-field staffers– Mark Speir–as well as recruiting and scouting coordinator Carter Wilson also are joining the Cincinnati staff for Satterfield’s inaugural year."
We wrote about Brown and Thomas following Bruce Feldman's reporting, but the other four are fresh names for the staff.
Cardwell started at Louisville as an offensive quality control coach in 2019 and primarily worked with the offensive line last season. Like Satterfield, Cardwell played at Appalachian State and was on his staff as tight ends coach before transitioning to Louisville with his head coach.
Nicholson was the inside linebackers coach under Satterfield beginning in 2020. Before that, he spent four years at Southern Mississippi, coaching the defensive line for two seasons and then serving as the co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.
He's helped cultivate a Cardinals defense that finished the 2022 regular season third nationally in turnovers (28), second in sacks per game (3.58), and 12th in tackles for loss per game (7.2). It culminated in the 19th-ranked scoring defense at 20.2 points per game.
Nicholson was the primary recruiter for four-star edge rushing commit Adonijah Green and four-star linebacker Stanquan Clark at Louisville.
Speaking of recruiting, the reported addition of Thomas and Wilson is massive for incoming-talent continuity in this crazy period. Time will tell how much of Louisville's top-20 class this cycle flips to Cincinnati.
Brice also confirmed that more of Louisville's staff are joining Satterfield at UC after the two teams play in the 2022 Fenway Bowl on Dec. 17.
