CINCINNATI — New UC football head coach Scott Satterfield is assembling his staff at UC this week and started offering some of his commits from Louisville.

One of which is 2023 three-star safety Jayden Davis out of Collins Hill (Georgia).

According to 247Sports Composite, Davis is the 477th-ranked player nationally and the 45th-ranked safety. On3 has him ranked as a four-star talent and the 28th-best safety.

Davis has plenty of potential in Bryan Brown's 3-4 defense. He showed a nice range in coverage on highlights and has the speed to turn interceptions into house calls. At 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, Davis flies around with 4.49 speed as a havoc creator. He has a good motor and a nice knack for punch-out fumbles. That made up for a few reps where he got beat in coverage.

The safety room will have plenty of opportunity available in 2022 and Davis has the talent to potentially get on the field as a freshman.

One major outlet thinks UC is a top-five recruiting hotspot among all the open FBS jobs this offseason. The Athletic ranked Cincinnati fifth.

"Certain Group of 5 programs—like Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF—continue to be successful over several coaching regimes," Ari Wasserman wrote. "There are certain advantages to all those places, most notably a very good local recruiting base. Cincinnati, a program that is a year removed from playing in the College Football Playoff, isn’t even in the Group of 5 anymore. This is a Big 12 team now. There’s a reason Scott Satterfield left Louisville to take this job on Monday morning."

Louisville slotted in at No. 8, despite sporting a top-20 class nationally. None of those commits are from Kentucky, with a scattering across Georgia, California, the Carolinas, and Texas.

Former U of L QBs coach Pete Thomas made inroads to California in particular. Thomas reportedly joining UC's staff should be a big boon on the recruiting front.

“That's huge," Satterfield said this week about building out a strong recruiting department. "You have to have the support staff nowadays, as you think about the portal that we are living in now. In this world, we have to build out our recruiting staff, you have to and that's the one thing that we did at Louisville when I got there, there was one person right now there are seven. We have to continue to invest in that and pour into that, you are only as good as the players you have on your roster. I thought we did a great job with that there and will continue to do that here. That's what we are in the process of doing, building out that recruiting department, bringing in some guys and gals that will really help us bring the top talent here.”

Talent acquisition was a big theme of Satterfield's opening press conference. He said all the right things about talent driving success in the Big 12. Using that UC-record coaching salary pool effectively for the recruiting staff will play a big role in his Bearcats' tenure.

Check out the rest of the list, which included Auburn, Arizona State, Georgia Tech, and Wisconsin ahead of Cincinnati in the top five.
