Clemson Recruiting Update: Where does Jadyn Davis' Decision put the Tigers?
With the news today that Jadyn Davis is headed to Michigan, Clemson still finds itself without a quarterback in the class of 2024. Former 5-star Cade Klubnik returns after gaining some valuable experience for the Tigers in 2022, including an ACC Championship Game MVP and starting in the Orange Bowl against Tennesee. After Klubnik, things get interesting. Hunter Helms, entering his third season at Clemson is repping with the second team in spring ball, but freshman Chris Vizzina, a 4-star prospect, will push for the backup job.
Where does that put Clemson in terms of recruiting? While the Tigers aren't desperate to sign a quarterback in the class of 2024, they’re certainly interested in some of the top talent. Here’s an update on where things stand.
Walker White (Little Rock Christian Academy, Arkansas) - Offered on December 9, 2022
The one that got away. Walker White seemed like a sure thing for Clemson for a while, but a late surge by Auburn earned his commitment back in February. Auburn’s hiring of Hugh Freeze obviously played a big part in the decision, but it still came as a shock to many. White has since become a big recruiter for Auburn as well, so this one seems sewn up.
DJ Lagway (Willis, Texas) - Offered on May 31, 2022
Clemson’s other top target at QB in the class, Lagway committed to Florida back in December. He’s the biggest commit for the Gators under head coach Billy Napier. The 5-star quarterback seemed like a natural fit for the Tigers, but uncertainty at the offensive coordinator position certainly didn’t help Clemson’s chances.
Jadyn Davis (Providence Day School, North Carolina) - Offered June 1, 2022
After a relatively calm recruitment, Davis elected to go to Michigan, something that seemed inevitable as his commitment date neared. North Carolina seemed to be the only real challenger to the Wolverines in this one. Most recruiting experts believe that Clemson was just in his final group of teams out of his respect for the program and the coaches.
Air Noland (Langston Hughes, Georgia) - Offered on March 11, 2023
If Clemson does land a quarterback in 2024, Air Noland seems like he'll be the guy. Noland is a winner. Langston Hughes has become a power in Georgia in the last few years, and players like Air Noland are a big reason why. Noland has lost just twice in his 30 games as a starter: As a sophomore in his first game as a starting quarterback and in the AAAAAA state championship game that same season. In 2022, Noland led the Panthers to a perfect 15-0 record and a state title. The 6-foot-3 Noland has played his recruitment close to the chest, and Clemson came in late, but the Tigers have made enough of an impression to land in his top 7. Noland has set his commitment for April 8th.
