Fake News: Deion Sanders hasn't responded to Brent Venables

Coach Prime has been misrepresented to the masses

If you got suckered into believing Deion Sanders slammed Oklahoma coach Brent Venables, you're not the only one.

An anonymous quote starting off with,"To the gentleman from Oklahoma, it's coach to you," has been circulating around the internet. And while some people want to believe those are the words of Coach Prime, the truth is they're not.

In the interest of not feeding the internet trolls, we're not spreading misinformation by showing their imaginary work of art. Don't believe everything that can be put into a flashy graphic. The same thing happened recently with USC QB Caleb Williams and a fictitious quote making the rounds.

Venables did criticize Sanders for his handling of the CU roster

“You know, I gave guys twelve months of grace," Venables said. "I was unlike Deion (Sanders). I gave guys 12 months of grace to figure it out."

Sanders caused shockwaves in the college football world last year by announcing he was leaving Jackson State. He took over a depleted Colorado team that posted one of the worst marks in the program's rich history under Karl Dorrell. From the moment Coach Prime stepped on campus in Boulder, it essentially became everyone vs. the Buffs. But for Sanders, the noise is extra motivation for success in his first Power Five year.

Venables went on a streak of calling out coaches this past week. He threw shade toward Miami's Mario Cristobal for how the Canes ended the 2022 season.

“6-7, none of it’s any good,” Venables said. “But had we gotten blown out by Middle Tennessee, had we gotten beat by Florida State, 45-3, the conversation’s probably a little different.”

Sanders' situation is unlike any other we've ever seen before. The transfer portal was the source for players to join the Buffaloes, and it was used often. So much so, Pittsburgh head coach Pat Narduzzi disagreed with Sanders' way of recruiting.

"That's not the way it's meant to be. That's not what the rule intended to be. It was not to overhaul your roster. We'll see how it works out but that, to me, looks bad on college football coaches across the country," Narduzzi said

Good or bad, they wouldn't be talking if Sanders was sitting on his hands and waiting for the grass to grow under his feet. Colorado opens the season with a non-conference stretch against TCU, Nebraska, and Colorado State.
