Coach Prime is in the midst of a difficult off-season battle. The Hall of Famer met with a team of doctors this week and could have his left foot amputated, as first reported by Thee Pregame Show.

Sanders dealt with blood clots in his lower extremity last year, which required him to have two toes amputated. The surgery seemed to temporarily help his overall mobility, but he continues to experience issues with a lack of blood flow.

Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Ken Hunt, along with vascular surgeons Dr. Donald Jacobs and Dr. Max Wohlauer explained a timeframe to Sanders and the possible next steps. Sanders' left ankle is only yielding 66 percent of blood circulation compared to the rest of his body.

A condition that has diminished since coming to Colorado. Another surgery is likely in the works prior to the 2023 football season. Prime missed three games last year at Jackson State while he recovered from the initial operation.

"I want to do it this summer because when we get rolling, I’m not going to have time to do it," Sanders said. "This is the best downtime I have."

The first year for Prime at CU after posting a 27-6 record at JSU starting in 2020.

Colorado opens the 2023 season at TCU on Sept. 2.
