The Duke basketball staff reached out to Mikel Brown Jr. in June once college coaches could begin contacting 2025 recruits directly. However, the Overtime Elite (Ga.) five-star junior doesn't hold an offer from Jon Scheyer; until this week, there hadn't been much word on follow-up interest from the Blue Devils.

On Wednesday, though, Brown told Recruits Zone that "Duke was in last week" to watch his workouts. He also reported recent visits from Indiana and Alabama.

Mikel Brown Jr. is a 6-foot-2, 165-pound speedy floor general. He ranks No. 15 on the 247Sports 2025 Composite but might be a candidate to reclassify to 2024, per On3's Jamie Shaw.

In November, Rivals' Rob Cassidy assessed Brown's game:

"I really think point guard Mikel Brown Jr. helped himself significantly over the last year or so. He's grown significantly in both size and skill, and looks nothing like the undersized but athletic prospect he seemed to be a year ago at this time.

"Brown has always been a reliable shooter that can make creative passes and facilitate for his teammates. Now standing all of 6-foot-2, he's also added significant muscle and taken strides as a ball-handler and defender..."

Although Brown boasts almost two dozen offers, Florida State remains the only ACC program on that list.

Meanwhile, Scheyer's 2025 offer sheet consists of nine names, all composite five-star prospects: guard Meleek Thomas, guard Brayden Burries, guard Jalen Haralson, guard Cayden Boozer, forward Cameron Boozer, forward Nate Ament, forward Koa Peat, forward Caleb Wilson, and center Khaman Maluach.

No current high school juniors have committed to Scheyer and his crew. That said, none of the above Duke basketball targets have announced their decisions or revealed favorites without including the Blue Devils.
