Duke Basketball: Sharpshooter Emerges on 2024 Recruiting Trail
Cannon School (N.C.) shooting guard Austin Swartz may never become a priority Duke basketball recruiting target. But the Blue Devils have expressed interest, according to Cerebro Sports' Andrew Slater, likely due to his knockdown 3-point stroke, sturdy frame, and high IQ on both ends of the floor.
Swartz, a 6-foot-5, 180-pound three-star who ranks only No. 131 in the eyes of 247Sports but is sure to see his stock rise soon, also recently heard from the UConn staff. The Connecticut native already boasts 18 offers, with ACC programs Virginia Tech, NC State, and Clemson having pursued him for several months.
And within the past few days alone, his list of suitors has grown to include Florida State, Texas A&M, Maryland, Indiana, St. John's, and Seton Hall.
The buzz around Austin Swartz has exploded following his lights-out performances for his Boo Williams squad during the Nike EYBL Session 1 in Georgia last weekend.
His 21.8 points per game were the third most among players in the highest age division, resulting in Made Hoops naming him one of two "Breakout Prospects" from the talent-loaded event. It didn't hurt that he shot 48.5 percent from three across four games.
Duke basketball chief Jon Scheyer plans for the Blue Devils to acquire more long-term collegians than in recent years.
However, every 2024 prospect who has received an offer from Scheyer ranks among the top 50, including his lone commit in Paul VI Catholic (Va.) four-star small forward Darren Harris. Some Duke targets in the class appear to have one-and-done potential.

On that note, Austin Swartz might fit the description of what Scheyer is looking for, even though it wouldn't be a surprise if he adds another star or two to his rating and winds up in the top 50.
