Duke Basketball Recruiting: When to Expect Cooper Flagg Announcement

Duke basketball target Cooper Flagg will likely reveal his decision within the next three days.

Duke basketball's Cooper Flagg mania is in full effect. As top insiders at all the major national recruiting sites enter predictions this week, each pointing to the Blue Devils coming out on top for the Montverde Academy (Fla.) five-star small forward, it sure feels like an announcement might pop up at any moment.

According to a report by Forbes' Adam Zagoria on Wednesday morning, just a few days removed from Flagg's official visit to Duke, Montverde Academy head coach Kevin Boyle said the expectation is Flagg will announce his college decision "this week."

So, that leaves a projected four-day window, including the possibility of an announcement as early as Wednesday afternoon or evening.

Flagg, a 6-foot-9, 200-pound phenom who reigns at No. 1 overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite and has held an offer from Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer since May 2022, also took an official visit to UConn.

From the time of that trip in mid-September until his Duke visit (his second in Durham following an unofficial tour of the campus in August), there was some growing chatter of the Huskies making up ground in the race.

However, that noise has died down considerably in the past few days, particularly in light of a critical 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction on Tuesday afternoon and an official Flagg-to-Duke forecast from renowned incognito insider "Trilly Donovan" seven hours later.

If Cooper Flagg, an admitted lifelong fan of the Blue Devils, publicly pledges allegiance to Duke later this week, Scheyer and his crew will sit comfortably atop the 2024 rankings. They already boast pledges from five-star small forward Isaiah Evans, five-star small forward Kon Knueppel, and four-star small forward Darren Harris.

Meanwhile, the Blue Devils appear to be a top contender for Harris' teammate at Paul VI Catholic (Va.), five-star center Patrick Ngongba II.

And that's not to mention Long Island Lutheran (N.Y.) five-star shooting guard VJ Edgecombe, who was on an official visit this past weekend alongside Flagg and Ngongba (Evans, Knueppel, Harris, and 2025 Duke basketball target Nate Ament were also on hand for Countdown to Craziness on Friday night).
