Prime Duke Basketball Recruiting Target Reveals Decision Timeline
Over the weekend, Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) combo guard Dylan Harper told Zagsblog recruiting insider Adam Zagoria that he plans to take a few more official visits before announcing a winner in his recruitment. Still, the 6-foot-5, 180-pound five-star lefty on Duke basketball's 2024 wishlist did not specify when to expect his decision.
The five finalists he unveiled in late January are Auburn, Duke, Indiana, Kansas, and Rutgers. While such a list often implies a decision on the horizon, he hadn't been clear about a timeline until this week.
On Tuesday morning, 247Sports' Travis Branham reported that Harper, who ranks No. 4 overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite and is the son of former five-time NBA champ Ron Harper, said he plans to announce his college destination following Peach Jam (July 3-9).
"I dropped my top five," Harper said, "and I am just waiting until after Peach Jam to make my announcement."
Dylan Harper, a confident backcourt playmaker with an ever-improving stroke from downtown, checked out Jon Scheyer's Blue Devils in person via an official visit in October that coincided with Countdown to Craziness. That trip came a few months after he received a Blue Devil offer.
"I had a great time," Harper told Branham. "Right when I walked in and walked out, they really showed me what 'The Brotherhood' was. Scheyer and the whole staff sat me down and told me what they could do for me, and I really liked what I had to hear."
Note, though, that he also had nice things to say about his other remaining suitors.
Per the 247Sports Crystal Ball, Duke remains the leader in the race. But only one expert there has entered a prediction.
Meanwhile, Indiana is the only other school that has hosted Harper for an official visit. That said, the New Jersey sensation is no stranger to the campus of nearby Rutgers, where his brother, current Toronto Raptors rookie forward Ron Harper Jr., starred for four years (2018-22).
