Florida Makes Second Cut for Portal Guard Tylor Perry

North Texas transfer guard Tylor Perry is down to four, and Florida is one of his finalists.
In this story:

North Texas guard Tylor Perry has trimmed his list of transfer portal contenders after releasing a debut list of desirable programs on Apr. 14. Once again, Florida has found itself safe near the top of the catalog.

Kansas State has emerged as a late but significant entrant in the race for Perry's services as the Wildcats join the Gators, Ole Miss and Texas Tech in his top four schools, Perry announced on Tuesday evening. Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor, Louisville and Oklahoma State were eliminated from contention.

Of the schools left standing, Perry has only visited Florida, doing so just three days after officially entering the transfer portal earlier in April. He'll make the trip to Ole Miss for a visit beginning on Apr. 20.

After acquiring guard Walter Clayton Jr. and big men EJ JarvisMicah Handlogten and Tyrese Samuel from the portal to begin the offseason, Florida hopes to make another transfer splash by picking up one of the top scorers in the nation last season in Perry.

The 5-foot-11, 182-pound Perry averaged 17.3 points on 43.7% from the field and 41.3% from three, 3.4 rebounds and two assists per game for the Mean Green in 2022-23. He earned the Conference USA Player of the Year award for his regular season play and Most Outstanding Player honors as a part of North Texas' championship run in the National Invitation Tournament.

Three spots are vacant on head coach Todd Golden's future Gators roster with four transfers and two high school prospects — forwards Alex Condon and Thomas Haugh — entering the summer. Perry would be an ideal fit for Florida's most pressing remaining need: another starter in the backcourt.
