Priority PG Target Tylor Perry chooses Kansas State over Florida Gators
The Gators' top remaining transfer portal target, former North Texas guard Tylor Perry, is officially off the market after electing to align himself with Kansas State on Tuesday night.
Perry chose the Wildcats over the three other squads in his recently released top four, including Ole Miss and Texas Tech, alongside UF.
When the 5-foot-11, 182-pound guard entered the transfer portal on April 4, the Gators quickly brought him to campus for an official visit the ensuing weekend.
The buzz following the trek seemed promising as Florida positioned itself well for the long haul of his process.
However, drawing out his portal recruitment to ensure the right fit for his final season of collegiate eligibility, the Gators standing as the expected leader in the clubhouse slipped. Simultaneously, Kansas State — a program left out of his initial top schools — worked back into the fold to assume a top spot on his shortlist of options.
Manhattan (Kan.) received his most recent visit as a result.
The final decision came down to Jerome Tang and Todd Golden's squads, with the former ultimately plucking the talented scoring guard off the market.
He'll now fill in the void left behind by K-State's star point Markquis Nowell this offseason, anchoring the team's offensive attack as one of their top scoring options.
Florida, on the other hand, remains point guard-less at this stage.
The Gators will move forward in their search for a transfer point guard to fill the team's vacant starting spot at the one before the offseason regimen begins. Several options remain at the position, although the staff's evident focus on Perry of late forced them to miss out on several point guard options who have come off the board during that timeframe.
Florida has three scholarship openings available for the 2023-24 season. Four spots have already been filled, with Walter Clayton Jr. (Iona), EJ Jarvis (Yale), Tyrese Samuel (Seton Hall) and Micah Handlogten (Marshall) transferring into the program this year.
