The class of 2006 prospect occupied a key role in the team’s immense success over his four seasons in Gainesville, accumulating a litany of individual and team accolades throughout his time in orange and blue. He earned two All-American selections and significantly contributed to two SEC Championships in three appearances and two national titles during his stint at UF.
Finishing with 307 tackles, 31.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, one forced fumble, nine pass breakups, six interceptions and two touchdowns, Spikes etched his name into Gators lore as one of the best players at his position in program history. His hit on Knowshon Moreno in the Florida-Georgia contest or punted ball after a pick six against LSU during Florida’s 2008 championship run further cemented his legacy with the Gators.
He was drafted in 2010 by the New England Patriots, playing four seasons in Foxboro before spending two in Buffalo.
Spikes has served on the Florida staff throughout the 2023 campaign as a student assistant coach since returning to the University to finish his degree earlier this year. He becomes the first active coach to occupy the Mr. Two Bits role.
Following his pregame acknowledgment and performance of the tradition, Spikes will return to the Florida sideline, looking to remain unbeaten against the Seminoles — who he holds a 4-0 record over as a player.
Kickoff between Florida (5-6; 3-5 SEC) and No. 4 Florida State (11-0; 8-0 ACC) is set for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
