Former Florida defensive back Jadarrius Perkins announced his transfer commitment to Toledo on Tuesday afternoon.
Perkins will join the Rockets as a graduate transfer after earning a bachelor’s degree in Education Sciences in August.
A native of Hattiesburg, Miss., Perkins transferred to Florida ahead of the 2021 season and spent over two seasons with the program. Formerly a two-year junior college player at Mississippi Gulf Coast, Perkins spent the spring of 2021 at Missouri before joining the Gators that summer.
Perkins left Florida and entered the NCAA transfer portal following Week 1 of the 2023 campaign after taking the field for six snaps and producing a tackle against Utah.
“I want to appreciate Dan Mullen and Scott Stricklin for giving me the opportunity to be a Gator, something I'll remember and cherish forever,” Perkins wrote via social media after leaving UF. “With that being said I have decided to enter my name in the Transfer Portal as a Graduate. A really unfortunate situation I love all of my teammates that has kept me up throughout everything.
“Outside noise means zero only the people in this circle know the real and that's all that truly matters. Wishing my brothers luck in finishing this season you guys work so hard for it.”
Perkins recorded 40 tackles with three for loss, an interception and three pass breakups across 23 appearances with the Gators.
Of the 16 members of Florida's roster to explore their options in the NCAA transfer portal this postseason, Perkins is the seventh to find a new program, following quarterback Max Brown (Charlotte), wide receiver Caleb Douglas (Texas Tech), tight end Jonathan Odom (Eastern Michigan), edge rusher Princely Umanmielen (Ole Miss), safety Kamari Wilson (Arizona State) and offensive lineman Jordan Herman (Charlotte).
