GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida redshirt sophomore kicker Adam Mihalek announced on Sunday that he intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal following three seasons with the Gators.

"I am grateful for my time as a Florida Gator in Gainesville. I want to thank Coach Napier and the entire staff for the opportunity at UF. It was a great experience to kick for the Gators. It has enriched my life in countless ways and I will carry those life lessons with me," Mihalek wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

"I also want to thank my family for their amazing support and a special thank you to all of my teammates, many of which I have no doubt will remain friends for life. I have decided to enter the transfer portal and look forward to my next opportunity. I will be entering the portal with two years of eligibility remaining."

Mihalek joined Florida as a walk-on from the recruiting class of 2021, but earned the team's first-team placekicking role ahead of his redshirt freshman 2022 campaign. He went on to convert 14-of-21 field goal attempts and 42-of-43 on extra point tries over 13 games.

For his productivity in 2022, Mihalek was awarded spring and summer semester scholarships by UF earlier this year.

But after a one-of-three start on field goal attempts and another extra point miss over the first three games of the 2023 season, Mihalek was replaced by sophomore Trey Smack as Florida's placekicker. Mihalek never took the field for UF again, while Smack connected on 17-of-21 field goal tries and 29-of-29 extra point attempts to finish the year.

Mihalek is the fourth Florida player to share intentions to transfer since the 2023 season began.

Defensive back Jadarrius Perkins entered the transfer portal as a graduate student following Week 2, offensive tackle Jordan Herman unofficially left the team after Week 11 and tight end Jonathan Odom revealed his plans to transfer earlier on Sunday.

The 2023-24 winter transfer portal window will be open for Mihalek, an underclassman, to officially enter between Dec. 4, 2023, and Jan. 2, 2024.
