Teammate of DJ Lagway, WR DeBraun Hampton Commits to Florida as PWO
Florida earned its second preferred walk-on commitment of the day on Friday night when Willis (Texas) High class of 2024 wide receiver and teammate of prized Gators 2024 quarterback commitment DJ Lagway, DeBraun Hampton, announced his pledge to the Gators.
Hampton's pledge to the Gators follows that of Tallahassee (Fla.) Florida State University School class of 2024 offensive lineman and preferred walk-on prospect, Mark Faircloth, on Friday morning.
“If there’s one person I'm willing to bet on, it's myself," Hampton wrote on social media.
The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Hampton is not a ranked prospect by the 247Sports composite. Although he does not possess a scholarship offer from these schools, Texas A&M, LSU, Arkansas, TCU, Baylor and Houston are among those that have expressed an interest in his talent, according to On3 Sports.
Gardner-Webb, Northern Arizona, Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern have extended offers to the Lone Star State talent.
Over 27 varsity appearances in two seasons with Willis and one with Montgomery (Texas) Lake Creek, Hampton has compiled 110 receptions for 1,890 yards and 25 touchdowns, returned 20 kickoffs for an average of 22.1 yards per attempt and one touchdown, and returned 10 punts for an average of 18.3 yards per attempt.
Hampton's 11 receiving touchdowns as a senior are tied for Willis' team lead. Lagway has tossed 45 scores through nine games this season and rushed for another nine.
Florida has previously accepted commitments from three receivers, Izaiah Williams of Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day, Jerrae Hawkins Jr. of Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy and Tawaski Abrams of Fort Myers (Fla.) Dunbar.
