Florida State Men's Basketball Guard Suspended By Head Coach Leonard Hamilton

The Seminoles have indefinitely suspended one of their top young playmakers.

Florida State has retooled its roster over the offseason in hopes of finding success after trending in the wrong direction the past two years. Unfortunately, problems off the court can quickly diminish the Seminoles' chances of getting back on track in 2023-24.

According to head coach Leonard Hamilton through a release from the program, rising sophomore guard Chandler Jackson has been indefinitely suspended from the team. Jackson is one of the top young playmakers on Florida State's roster and is expected to play a bigger role this upcoming season.

The Tennessee native missed the beginning of his true freshman season with a wrist injury but ended up becoming a consistent presence in the lineup throughout the year. Jackson averaged 3.6 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 12.2 minutes per game while shooting 40.2% from the field, 37.5% from deep, and 76% from the free throw line.

Jackson found his footing as the season went on as he earned double-digit minutes in each of the final 12 games of the year. He averaged more minutes in ACC play (12.6 mpg) than the rest of the season, finishing with an assist-to-turnover ratio better than two to one (29-14).

The 6-foot-5 guard earned the first start of his career against Syracuse in February. He finished the game with seven points and a career-high nine assists in 26 minutes. Jackson scored a career-best ten points twice in the final five games of the season, once in a win at Miami and once in a loss to Boston College.

No reason for his suspension was publicly provided. It remains to be seen how long Jackson will be away from the team.
