Florida State's ACC/SEC Challenge Matchup Announced

The Seminoles will be matching up with Georgia on the hardwood for the first time in 42 years.

Florida State's opponent for the inaugural ACC/SEC Challenge has been announced. The Seminoles will be hosting the Georgia Bulldogs on Wednesday, November 29 at 9:15 P.M. The ACC has moved away from the ACC/Big 10 challenge, which was a good thing considering how stale and repetitive the matchups had gotten.

FSU leads the all-time series 19-10, yet this is the first time these two have matched up since December of 1981, which is odd considering how close these teams are geographically. The biggest factor connecting these two schools is former head coach Hugh Durham, who led both universities to their one and only Final Four appearances in 1972 for FSU and 1983 for Georgia. The Bulldogs are now led by Mike White, who FSU had a lot of success against while he was at Florida, having won seven straight games against him from 2014 to 2020.

Georgia is coming off of a 16-16 season in their first year under Coach White, but will see an influx of talent coming in via the transfer portal, including Jalen DeLoach (brother of FSU linebacker Kalen, coming in from VCU), RJ Melendez (Illinois), Russell Tchewa (USF), and Noah Thomasson (Niagara University). They're hoping to improve on that .500 season to make some noise in the SEC. Florida State has a VCU transfer of their own joining them this season in Jamir Watkins.

More schedule news should be coming in the next month or two for Florida State and the ACC. We already know their ACC opponents and whether they'll be home or away, but there are still a lot of non-conference games that have yet to be announced.
