All-ACC Cornerback Returning To FSU Football For Final Season

The Seminoles will have one of their most experienced defensive backs in garnet and gold for another year.

There is no doubt that Florida State lost a ton of talent to the NFL Draft and Transfer Portal following the 2023 season. With that being said, there are still plenty of skilled and experienced players who intend to return to Tallahassee for another year.

On Friday afternoon, redshirt senior cornerback Fentrell Cypress II revealed that he would be wearing garnet and gold in 2024 through an announcement with The Battle's End. Cypress just concluded his first season with the Seminoles after beginning his college career at Virginia.

The Third-Team All-ACC selection recorded a career-high 40 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and eight pass deflections. He started in all 14 games for Florida State, including the ACC Championship and Orange Bowl. Cypress II was one of a school-record 25 Seminoles to earn all-conference honors following the season.

Cypress II spent four years at Virginia before transferring to Florida State. He appeared in 18 games, with 15 starts, during his time with the Cavaliers, totaling 57 tackles, 0.5 sacks, one interception, one fumble recovery, and 14 pass breakups. Cypress II was a First-Team All-ACC selection in 2022 after leading the conference in pass deflections.

The redshirt senior will be the most experienced member of a cornerback room that includes redshirt senior Greedy Vance, junior Azareye'h Thomas, redshirt sophomore Earl Little, sophomore Quindarrus Jones, redshirt freshman Ja'Bril Rawls, redshirt freshman Edwin Joseph, true freshman Charles Lester III, true freshman Cai Bates, true freshman Jamari Howard, and true freshman Ricky Knight III.

Outside of Cypress II, running back Lawrance Toafili, running back Caziah Holmes, wide receiver Darion Williamson, wide receiver Kentron Poitier, wide receiver Destyn Hill, offensive lineman Robert Scott, offensive lineman Darius Washington, offensive lineman Maurice Smith, offensive lineman Keiondre Jones, offensive lineman Jeremiah Byers, defensive end Patrick Payton, defensive end Byron Turner Jr, defensive tackle KJ Sampson, linebacker Omar Graham Jr., cornerback Azareye'h Thomas, cornerback Quindarrius Jones, cornerback Ja'Bril Rawls, safety Shyheim Brown, punter Alex Mastromanno, and kicker Ryan Fitzgerald have all announced they'll return to Florida State since December.
