BREAKING: Florida State Is Now A Top-3 Team In The Country In Latest AP Top-25 Poll

The Seminoles continue to climb in the polls with two dominant victories to kick off 2023.

The Seminoles continued to dominate early in 2023 with a 66-13 victory against Southern Miss in their home opener. Doak Campbell Stadium was rocking as Florida State got 100 players in the game, including 24 who made their debut with the program.

Through two games, FSU has outscored LSU and the Golden Eagles by a combined score of 111-37. In a week where many top teams struggled against lesser competition, the Seminoles took care of business and were able to get the starters out early.

On Sunday afternoon, the weekly Associated Press Top 25 Poll was released. After entering the top 5 for the first time since the 2017 preseason, the Seminoles continue their climb in the rankings. Florida State slotted in at No. 3 in the country following Alabama's loss to Texas at home. The complete AP Top 25 Poll can be viewed here. FSU is ranked No. 3 in the Coaches Poll as well.

Taking a glance at the remainder of the poll, Georgia and Michigan are the only two teams ranked higher than Florida State. The Seminoles received three first-place votes after also garnering three last week.

As of now, Florida State has two ranked teams remaining on its schedule; Miami (22) and Duke (21). The Seminoles are by far the highest-ranked team in the ACC ahead of their conference opener against Boston College. Outside of the Blue Devils and Hurricanes, North Carolina (20) stayed in the top 25 after surviving against Appalachian State. Clemson dropped out after a slow start.

This is the highest ranking for the program entering Week 3 since 2016 when Florida State sat at No. 2 prior to falling to Louisville on the road. If the Seminoles keep taking things week to week, the sky is the limit for this team, especially if they take care of business in Clemson at the end of the month.

The Seminoles held Southern Miss to 3/13 on third-down attempts and 0/1 on fourth-down attempts on Saturday night. The rushing game racked up 306 yards as five players (Trey Benson, Caziah Holmes, Lawrance Toafili, Brock Glenn, Rodney Hill) finished with 30+ yards on the ground. Benson tied his career-high with three rushing touchdowns.

Florida State returns to action on Saturday afternoon for its ACC opener on the road against Boston College. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and the contest will be televised on ABC.
