CBS Sports Names FSU Football's Mike Norvell Among Top-20 Head Coaches In The Country

Norvell made the biggest leap from 2021 of all the coaches ranked.

Florida State head coach Mike Norvell and the Seminoles are coming off a remarkable 10-win season, including victories over rivals Florida and Miami and a Cheez-It Bowl win against Oklahoma. That is a stark contrast to when you look at his first and second seasons at the helm. He went 3-5 and 5-7 during the pandemic before his 10-3 (5-3 ACC) in 2022.

He has been heavy on the recruiting trail, and some call him the "Transfer King" due to his ability to bring in top prospects from the NCAA Transfer Portal. FSU has recently moved to the No. 5 spot with the addition of Michigan State transfer wide receiver Keon Coleman and has made significant additions to the roster.

CBS Sports released their annual top head coach ranking, and out of the coaches on their list, Norvell made the highest jump from last season, climbing 28 spots from No. 47 and into the top 20, landing at the No. 19 spot.

"I'm sure there aren't any fans out there who will take note of where Norvell is ranked in relation to another former Florida State coach," wrote Tom Forrinelli of CBS. "Norvell made the biggest jump of any coach this year, climbing 28 spots from No. 47 to No. 19. Feels like too big of a jump for me, considering he's only had one winning season at FSU, but I get why people are hyped. I know I'm high on the Seminoles in 2023, but I need to see Norvell do it two seasons in a row before buying in fully."

He managed to flip the roster entirely and has hired a great on and off-the-field staff. Norvell and the Seminoles are primed for another breakout year, possessing a team that has a conference championship in its sights and beyond.
