College GameDay Host Believes Florida State is a Championship Caliber Team

"They stomped LSU in the second half, and there is no mistake about it. That is what a National Championship contender is supposed to look like."

The country sat in awe as the Florida State Seminoles and the LSU Tigers traded blows last Sunday night in the first top-10 showdown of the season. The then-ranked No. 8 Seminoles delivered a commendable first-half performance followed by an unstoppable pounding that left the then-ranked No. 5 Tigers looking for answers.

ESPN College GameDay host Rece Davis was one of the 9.1 million viewers and he saw what a lot of college football experts did; a top-tier team performing on one of the largest stages.

"What I saw from Florida State last night, especially in the second half, was an elite team that can compete on the line of scrimmage with anybody they play," Davis said in a recent College Gameday podcast. "They stomped LSU in the second half, and there is no mistake about it. That is what a National Championship contender is supposed to look like."

The Seminoles have since climbed to the No. 4 spot in the latest AP Poll which was released on Tuesday and continue to charge ahead with championship intentions. Davis was one of the three first-place votes for the Seminoles in the ranking process.

"As we sit here today on Labor Day, I'm voting Florida State number one. I had Michigan as the preseason number one. I still might favor Michigan over Florida State, but early season ranking should be fluid and reflective of what you see and not trying to validate your predictions."

There is no doubt that the 45-24 victory was a statement to the rest of the college football world and it is up to the Seminoles to continue to make those types of statements if they want to compete for a National Title.
