Deion Sanders at Forefront of Massive Player Exodus at Colorado
There is a roster overhaul, and then there is over half of the scholarship players leave your roster in the off-season type of overhaul.
Colorado has 45 players in the transfer portal since first-year head coach Deion Sanders took over towards the end of December. That number has jumped up rapidly over the past couple of days following the Buffaloes' historic sold-out spring game. Since Saturday, 24 more players from the program have hopped into the portal.
"I’m comin’, and when I get here, it’s gonna be changed. So I want y’all to get ready to go ahead and jump in that portal, and do whatever you’re gonna get because the more of you jump in, the more room we make," Sanders said as he addressed the Buffaloes back in December.

Colorado's top two receivers from 2022, Montana Lemonious-Craig and Jordyn Tyson, paired alongside leading rusher Deion Smith leaving the team, might have some scratching their head about what is happening in Boulder. Although, it is unclear whether those were a part of the culling of a roster that went 1-11 last year or just players seeking better options.
Tayvion Beasly, who transferred in with Sanders from Jackson State, also announced his intentions to transfer. The same thing occurred on Wednesday when offensive tackle Yousef Mugharbil entered the portal. He just recently joined Sanders at Colorado in January after transferring from Florida.
"You all know that we're gonna move on from some of the team members, and we're going to reload and get some kids that we really identify with," Sanders said after the Black and Gold Spring Game, "This process is going to be quick, it's going to be fast, but we're gonna get it done I think."
During his three-year stint at Jackson State, Sanders went 27-6 as a head coach. At Colorado, he has the top-ranked transfer class, according to 247Sports. Bringing in players like Alabama transfer LB Demouy Kennedy and what Sanders would describe as "his own luggage" in JSU transfers like CB Travis Hunter and QB Shedeur Sanders. Sanders was also able to sign five-star cornerback Cormani McClain in February.
The transfer portal closes on April 30, so expect more news over the ensuing days.
