The No. 8 Florida State Seminoles wrapped up their second scrimmage of fall camp on Sunday, ahead of the upcoming 2023 season closing in fast under two weeks away.

Head coach Mike Norvell addressed the media afterward and seemed happy with the team's development and progress thus far in fall camp.

Overall, Norvell stated that at this point in the off-season, no major injuries have occurred, which is a good sign as the beginning of last season was thought to have been hindered by unforeseen injuries that ranged from bumps and bruises to extended recovery times for some of the projected starters.

"All in all, really pleased with the guys," Norvell said. "No major injuries that showed up today, which is something, you know, second scrimmage you're always concerned about but I thought our guys went and played. Jared (Verse) was impactful early. I thought that Tatum Bethune, he's been limited a bit; he really flew around. You saw his presence back there. Kalen DeLoach, I thought, did some good things."

Dating back to a season ago, offensive linemen like Maurice Smith and Kayden Lyles went down early on and the depth up front struggled as they looked to plug and play guys at different positions. Norvell said that he feels he has eight players and potentially more that could position themselves to succeed and thrive on the line of scrimmage

"I think we have eight guys that put themselves in a big position, and I think these guys we can go win with. There's still some moving pieces. There's still some things that we're gonna look at. I feel like there's a couple of guys below that can play themselves up into expanding that group, but I thought especially early on that group is really good."

That depth will be crucial for the Seminoles when they travel to Orlando, Florida September 3 to take on the No. 5 LSU Tigers in primetime.

"I feel like we have a really good two-deep that can play on both sides of the ball, and there's not a position right now that I'm overly concerned with," Norvell said. "Now, there are obvious positions; if we get a couple of injuries or a couple of guys down, that could be thin quickly."

There seems to be no rest for the fourth-year head coach or his Seminoles when they gear up next month and putting his team in the most challenging situations beforehand will be critical when the whole world tunes in to what is expected to be a landmark season for the 'Noles.

"It's going to be a critical, critical factor here these next two weeks, to be able to play faster, and I'm not just talking about offense; it's defense, everybody involved. Just the efficiency of our communication; we're trying to create those challenging elements."

Norvell covers a wide range of topics from standout freshmen, defensive takeaways, Jordan Travis and the backup quarterbacks, and more in his full interview below.
