Florida State Head Coach Mike Norvell Discusses Response From Offense, Opportunistic Defense

The pads are coming on after day two of fall camp.

The Florida State Seminoles have just come off their second practice of fall camp on Friday as they gear up for what is anticipated to be an exciting year in 2023. Head coach Mike Norvell addressed the media after and gave some insight on what he's seen over the past two days.

"I thought today was another good day. I thought it was, you know, a lot of special teams emphasis. We had all four units working fundamentals introducing a couple different things," Norvell said. "I'm still really excited about what I'm seeing from some of the newcomers, continued development from our vets, and I thought the offense responded well today. "

The offense at the start of camp seemed to be shaking off some summer rust, and with the large influx of new faces, the timing was off at times. Norvell said that they responded well.

"The passing game was able to be a little more efficient. We had some big plays that showed up, you know, had a couple runs. Obviously, once again, you're in just helmets. It's hard to get a real sense of what it's looking like, but just watching the first step. I really like the way the defense was flying around to the ball."

Day two of fall camp was another practice without pads on, but the 'Noles will change it up a bit on day four before their first break of August.

"Tomorrow, we'll be in uppers. We'll be in shoulder pads and helmets." Norvell said.

Tight end Markeston Douglas had a remarkable one-handed grab inside the indoor practice facility and has steadily improved when healthy.

"Markeston had a really good day today. He had a couple of big plays. He's such a big target. I mean, right now, he's pushing 280 pounds, and to run like he runs is remarkable, and he's got a chance to be a really special player," Norvell said, adding, "People forget he played one year of high school football and was unable to participate his first year here, but he was around learning, and we're really seeing him just take off."

Norvell goes more in-depth into the new faces on the roster, Winston Wright, Jr.'s recovery, player buy-in, and more in his full interview below.
