Florida State To Host Former Washington State Star Quarterback For Official Visit

The Seminoles will host one of their top targets in the transfer portal in Tallahassee later this week.

Florida State's pursuit of an experienced signal-caller in the NCAA Transfer Portal has quickly narrowed down to two options; former Oregon State standout DJ Uiagalelei and former Washington star Cameron Ward.

The Seminoles are set to host both quarterbacks in Tallahassee for official visits in the near future. NoleGameday has learned that Ward is expected on campus later this week after previously taking an official visit to Miami. This comes a day after ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that Uiagalelei would be in town this weekend to meet with the coaching staff.

Ward and Uiagalelei are two of the most talented transfers to enter the portal during the winter window. The former spent the last two seasons dominating the PAC-12 after beginning his career in the FCS. Ward is coming off a strong campaign where he completed 66.6% of his passes for 3,736 yards with 25 touchdowns to seven interceptions. He also rushed for eight touchdowns on the ground.

The Texas native would be a suitable replacement for Jordan Travis moving into 2024 as a dynamic athlete who can continue to help the Seminoles win a lot of games. He's a much more proven option than anyone currently in the quarterback room and could potentially be a Heisman candidate with the weapons that he'll have around him.

There's no doubt that Florida State can make a competitive NIL offer relative to the market but there's always the risk of Miami floating out an offer that isn't worth matching. The next couple of days will be telling this recruitment as the Seminoles probably aren't going to want Ward and Uiagalalei to depart Tallahassee without a commitment from at least one of them.

As of now, FSU is projected to return rising redshirt senior Tate Rodemaker, rising redshirt freshman Brock Glenn, and incoming five-star Luke Kromenhoek at quarterback next season. The addition of Ward or Uiagalelei would provide a bridge for the Seminoles as Glenn and Kromenhoek continue to reach their respective ceilings.
