Former FSU Football Star Johnny Wilson Receives Praise From ESPN Analyst Before NFL Draft
ESPN NFL Draft scout Matt Miller praised former Florida State wide receiver Johnny Wilson for his physical attributes on Tuesday. Wilson, the California native, is listed at 6’7” and 237 pounds.

However, Miller focused on the Seminole pass catcher’s unique arm length and wingspan and even went as far as to liken him to a prehistoric creature.
“Florida State WR Johnny Wilson has 35 5/8" arms with an 84 1/2" wingspan. He's a pterodactyl,” said the ESPN scout.
Wilson became a key piece to the Florida State offense after transferring from Arizona State in late 2021. Wilson totaled 1,514 receiving yards, 84 receptions, and seven touchdowns in his two seasons with the Garnet and Gold.
His presence became known to the college football world when he made three big plays on the road against Louisville in 2022, including a 69-yard reception from Tate Rodemaker that put Florida State on the 10-yard line. He then caught a touchdown on the very next play. FSU’s next drive resulted in another touchdown for Wilson when he brought goal line fade route in the corner of the endzone, which ended up being the game-winner for the ’Noles.
Wilson would often obtain a lot of yards after contact, as it was a struggle for smaller defensive players to bring him and his frame down to the turf.
Despite struggling with some drops throughout his career in Tallahassee, Wilson’s build, coupled with his ability to bring down jump balls, could entice NFL GMs on draft day.
