FSU Football Freshman TE Landen Thomas Excited About Upcoming Role on Offense
Florida State's 2024 recruiting class is shaping up on campus as freshmen and transfers meet with the media for the first time in garnet and gold. While a major emphasis has turned to the NCAA Transfer Portal across the country, high school recruiting remains a building block on the path to being a successful program.

Former 4-star tight end Landen Thomas out of Colquitt, GA, has been on campus since December, learning the playbook and building bonds with teammates and staff. One of the major reasons he chose Florida State over programs like Georgia, Alabama, and Michigan is how head coach Mike Norvell utilizes the tight end position in his offense.
"I just like how they spread everybody around the field, like how they just don't keep somebody in that one specific spot," Thomas said of what he sees in the offense. "I can go outside; I can play the slot, you know? So, I just like how they will use me more versatile in their offense."
Former FSU tight end Jaheim Bell played a similar role in the offense, being a gadget player who can line up at multiple positions. Thomas amassed 1,917 yards and 21 touchdowns on 114 catches at Colquitt County, and the way they used Bell caught his eye.
"I see how they were using Jaheim a lot, like they moved him all around the field and got him the ball. So, like, that's what I was liking too; I was like, 'I can do that too.'"
Thomas said that it isn't all about catching passes. However, he feels like the easiest way to get on the field as a freshman is in the blocking game, which fits well with Norvell's philosophy.
"I feel like that's a better way for me to get on the field, you know, blocking-wise. You know, everybody can't block for real, so I feel like if I can get down blocking, I feel like I can get the feel faster."
With Bell gone, players like Kyle Morlock, Jackson West, and Jerrale Powers will be taking up reps at the tight end spot, but that doesn't mean you won't see Thomas on the field in 2024.
