FSU Football to Hold "Seminole Heritage Game" Featuring Turquoise on Homecoming Weekend
The term "unconquered" has become synonymous with Florida State University and the Seminole Tribe of Florida, as the two have shared countless years of tradition and respect in their longstanding relationship.
Dating back to 2013, Florida State has honored Nike's N7 Fund, designed to assist Native American communities in the athletic landscape and beyond by wearing turquoise uniforms that are a part of Nike's N7 line.
Florida State recently announced that along with basketball and soccer, the football team will participate in the tradition, naming all contests featuring the turquoise garb "Seminole Heritage" games starting on October 21 when they face the Duke Blue Devils on Homecoming weekend.
"While the student-athletes will not wear turquoise jerseys on the field, turquoise fan jerseys will be available at select retailers on September 9th," the university stated in the release. "A limited release of sideline gear mirroring what the football staff will wear during our Homecoming matchup vs. Duke will be available on Monday, October 2, 2023."
Although the players won't be wearing the turquoise jerseys on the field, the coaches and staff will wear the limited-release, which will be available on October 2. For those wishing to participate, the jerseys will be available on September 9 and can be purchased here.
A portion of the proceeds from the sales will go towards Florida State’s Native American and Indigenous Studies Center to support programs for Indigenous youth at FSU and public education about the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
