"I do want to give an update. Towards the end of last week, we got news back on Darrell Jackson's appeal and he was actually denied from the NCAA," Norvell said. "I talked to him once we got that information, obviously, I'm extremely disappointed in it."
Defensive tackle Darrell Jackson transferred from the University of Miami in the offseason and was expected to play a major role in what some experts believe will be one of the best defensive lines in the country. One of the main reasons he chose Florida State was to be closer to his mother.
"For that young man and just the journey and the reason. The reason why he's here. It's sad that he's gonna miss games. You know obviously, they're still processes that we're looking at going through but we did get an update at the end of last week," Norvell said about the news. "The thing I appreciate about him, is obviously he's hurt. This was something that, he came home for a reason. To be there with his mom. I thought in all things that were shown and presented and ultimately the NCAA, they have a choice of what they're gonna do and obviously the decision they made."
The news hasn't seemed to affect Jackson as Norvell said after he found out he went and had one of his best days at practice.
"The thing that's been incredible about it, I think this is our third practice, and just watching Darrell work and the very next day after we told him he had his best practice since he's been here. Like I told him I think he's got an incredible future. We're going to continue to go through the process of whatever is ahead but if he's not able to play in games this fall we're still gonna push to develop and do everything that we can to put him in the best positions to be one of the best defensive lineman in the country."
FSU will continue to explore avenues to get Jackson eligible for the 2023 season but the option seems unlikely as of now.
