FSU Football's Mike Norvell Says Tallahassee Is 'Right Fit' In ESPN Interview
Florida State head coach Mike Norvell shed light on his experience of being a possible candidate for the Alabama coaching position in a phone interview with ESPN’s Andrea Adelson.
The Crimson Tide gave the nod to now-former Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer on Friday to replace seven-time national champion, Nick Saban.
Norvell – in Jacksonville on a recruiting trip during the conversation – said the past 24 hours during the coaching carousel commotion were “wild” and “chaotic.”
However, despite declining to comment on the details surrounding Alabama’s recruitment of his services, Norvell said FSU was simply “the right fit” for him and his family.

"You respect the place, you respect the position. At the end of the day, it still comes down to the right fit. It still comes down to the place where you want to be, and what puts you in a position that you can pour everything you have into it,” said Norvell. "We've been able to do that over the last four years here at Florida State. There's a lot of excitement around our program. I'm just excited to continue to build upon the foundation that's been laid."
Retaining and extending Norvell was a monumental win for the university.
Not only does the symbolism of disregarding blue blood Alabama (in the same fashion that Bobby Bowden did decades ago) to stay with the Seminoles resonate with the fan base but it could (and should) resonate with potential recruits as well.
The president, the athletic director and the board of trustees of the university just put their full faith in Norvell, committing $80+ million to keep him in Tallahassee.
Norvell himself has committed to staying for eight more years as well. That should be music to recruits’ ears as they move their hand over multiple hats on National Signing Day.
