FSU Wide Receiver Hykeem Williams Reflects on First Touchdown as a Seminole
The Florida State Seminoles have crossed their halfway mark in the season after the blowout win over the Syracuse Orange. While the Seminoles are known for the depth of experienced players on both sides of the ball, there have been a few freshmen who have already been able to make an impact on the field.
Wide receiver Hykeem Williams is one of those freshmen. The former five-star recruit out of Fort Lauderdale, FL. joined the ‘Noles in the spring and has continued to improve his skill set week by week.

“I came in and it was definitely a big transition, but I feel like I’m kind of getting the hang of it,” Williams said.
In his last game, Williams scored his first collegiate touchdown as he caught a pass from quarterback Tate Rodemaker and ran the ball 44 yards into the endzone late in the fourth quarter.
“I didn’t realize it until I caught the ball,” Williams said. “Seeing the play and knowing it was coming to me, because I don’t get that many touches, so seeing that come to me, just going through my head I was telling myself to make something happen.”
As Williams continues to progress and make an impact in collegiate football, he hopes to create a lasting legacy at Florida State like so many others have. While his first touchdown was only scratching the surface, being able to accomplish that milestone at home means even more to Williams.
“It means a lot because it’s not easy to score in college,” Williams said. “So to score and be amongst others that have scored in college, it goes to show I’ll have a great career here.”
While it was a special moment for Williams, it was also a special moment for his teammates, as he noted they were just as excited to see him score as he was to be able to score.
“It’s the best feeling ever. To see how happy the team was for me, they could’ve just sat there and been like ‘touchdown we’re blowing them out,’ but to see me score, I'm a freshman, the energy they brought to me was the best thing ever.”
With the level Mike Norvell is pushing his players to be at, there is no doubt that FSU will continue to grow as a program. The flashes of talent Williams has shown in the first half of the season are something all Seminole fans can look forward to as he continues to develop as a player.
The Seminoles will face off against the 16th-ranked Duke Blue Devils this Saturday as a part of FSU’s homecoming week as well as the first Seminole Heritage game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 and the game will be televised on ABC.
