FSU WR Keon Coleman Recaps First Game In Doak Campbell Stadium, Crazy Hurdle

Coleman nearly forgot about the game after watching Chief Osceola and Renegade plant the spear before kickoff.

The Florida State Seminoles are undefeated heading into Week 3 for the second consecutive year and are currently ranked No. 3 in the country in the AP Poll. That comes after battering opponents for two straight weeks with wins over the fifth-ranked LSU Tigers and Southern Miss Golden Eagles by a combined score of 111-37.

Wins like that require not only good team chemistry, but outright talent as well, which the team is filled with. One new addition to the team who has been a key component of the Seminoles' offensive power over the past two weeks is wide receiver Keon Coleman.

In his first year with the program since transferring from Michigan State, Coleman has already proven himself as a core member of the team, with three touchdowns against LSU, which is the most in one game by an FSU wide receiver since 2017, and one touchdown against Southern Miss.

Coleman admitted that his first game as a Nole was special, and was something he had been dreaming about for a while.

“It doesn’t compare to the YouTube videos I watch, I’ve been watching them for the last few months and I’ve been ready to see him (Osceola) plant the spear in the ground. That was the highlight of my day, I forgot about the game for a second, I was just watching and I was so excited," Coleman said.

While his time on the field was somewhat limited as Florida State was eager to get some backups and true freshmen on the field, Coleman was able to put on a show for the crowd. Near the end of the second quarter, he pulled off a crazy hurdle over Southern Miss safety Jay Stanley.

"Really just reaction, trying to make a guy miss and they kept going low," Coleman said on how he executed the move. "You can't truck anybody that low to the ground so next thing is just to jump so I just tried to make a play. It was fun the first time, I didn't really land how I wanted to, so the second time, I knew it was coming. I just tried to effectively get over him and tried to score the ball."

On the next play, he caught his lone touchdown of the game, finishing the night with three catches for 48 yards. The limited number of touches on a night where Florida State dominated didn't bother Coleman.

“You don’t really count the touches, but when you do, you have your fun with the ball, protect the ball, own the ball, and just make the play you need to make," Coleman said. “It’s about the win more so than you getting the ball.”

The Seminoles closed out their home opener with 102 players on the field, meaning nearly everyone on the team was able to showcase their talent under the lights of Doak Campbell Stadium, creating a true team victory.

The 'Noles will begin conference play on Saturday, September 16th in Chestnut Hill as they face the Boston College Eagles at noon and continue the climb to the top while aiming for a fourth national title.
