Mike Norvell Updates Availability of Johnny Wilson, Destyn Hill, and Hykeem Williams

The Seminoles were forced to go deeper into their array of skill players with three of their top wide receivers out of the lineup against Wake Forest.

Florida State is moving into the final third of the regular season after picking up its eighth victory with a dominant effort against Wake Forest. Quarterback Jordan Travis passed for a season-high 359 yards and three passing touchdowns despite being without a couple of his top targets.

The Seminoles ended up playing all seven of their wide receivers that dressed for the contest with Johnny Wilson, Destyn Hill, and Hykeem Williams out of the lineup. It marked the second straight contest that Hill sat out due to injury while Wilson was sidelined after going down in the previous win over Duke.

On Monday, head coach Mike Norvell discussed the availability of the trio of injured wide receivers as FSU prepares for its second consecutive road game.

"We'll see where it goes throughout the week. Obviously, last week, being down three really good players," Norvell said. "Johnny and Destyn have both been starters throughout the course of the year. Hykeem has probably ascended as much as any player but having those three guys out, it gave new opportunities."

"One of my favorite plays of the game was Kentron's early, first drive. He got one-on-one coverage, great throw by Jordan, great route, being able to have an explosive play on the first drive was big," Norvell continued. "The other one was called back due to a penalty but I thought that was big for him. Being able to see Ja'Khi, we've talked about him. Ja'Khi's made so many good plays here through his first few years, coming off the injury, working to get back from that. It was good to see him kind of get into rhythm and obviously have some production there."

"We're excited about the guys that have stepped up. Darion had a catch later in the game, the tight ends, the mix of our personnel of what we're able to do has really been good," Norvell added. "But ultimately if you get those guys back, it just helps with depth, being able to keep guys fresh, being able to utilize all the skills. As we're looking into this week, as it gets a little further down, we'll have a better clue of the availability. I know Johnny was out yesterday and got a chance to get some practice in so we'll what that looks like as his week progresses. I know Destyn and Hykeem are both going through their process and we'll see what that looks like as we get to Tuesday."

It sounds like all three are beginning to make progress, with the biggest update probably being that Wilson was able to do some stuff at practice on Sunday. He's been injured in two of the past four games and it wouldn't be a surprise to see Florida State continue to be cautious with him. Wilson is second on the team with 25 catches for 415 yards and two touchdowns.

Keon Coleman stepped up in his absence, hauling in seven passes for 66 yards and two touchdowns. Coleman leads the ACC with nine touchdown catches on the season.

Florida State returns to action on Saturday in a conference matchup against Pittsburgh at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN.
