Rising Star Safety Plans To Return To Florida State In 2024

The Seminoles are retaining one of their top talents on defense.

Florida State needed some good news after a disappointing start to the Early Signing Period. With one game remaining before the offseason, it's imperative for the coaching staff to retain its young talent while also shoring up parts of the roster through the transfer portal.

The Seminoles are making it a priority to keep their best players in garnet and gold. On Thursday afternoon, FSU NIL Collective, The Battle's End, announced that redshirt sophomore safety Shyheim Brown was returning to Tallahassee in 2024. He's coming off a breakout campaign after stepping into a full-time starting role.

Brown started in all 13 games while totaling a career-high 46 tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks, three pass deflections, one fumble recovery, and one interception. He was extremely reliable for the Seminoles and was the most consistent face in the lineup. Brown was on the field for a team-high 677 snaps.

The Florida native has developed into a rising star with the Seminoles after signing with the program as an under-the-radar prospect in the 2021 class. Brown impressed out of the gate during his first year with the program but didn't become a regular in the rotation until last season. That paid off as he blocked the game-tying extra point to secure FSU's victory over LSU in New Orleans.

During his three years at Florida State, Brown has appeared in 29 games, with 15 starts, and totaled 85 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, five pass deflections, two fumble recoveries, and one interception. He was named Third-Team All-ACC and was a recipient of the Monk Bonasorte Award for the defensive player with the most heart following the 2023 season.

Seminole Standout Lawrance Toafili Plans To Return To Tallahassee In 2024

Brown is projected to be one of the top overall players on the roster next season. His presence in the defensive backfield will be imperative alongside promising true freshman Conrad Hussey and a young safety room.

Florida State has already had Brown and running back Lawrance Toafili announce their intentions to return to Tallahassee for another year. Defensive tackle Dennis Briggs is also searching for a seventh season of eligibility.
